The former Knights all-rounder, Dian Forrester, is thrilled to have been nominated for a Cricket South Africa (CSA) Award for the 2024/25 domestic season.

Forrester, who played a vital role for the Knights over the past two seasons, has since spread his wings and will now turn out for the North West Dragons.

The reigning Free State Cricketer of the Year has been nominated for the CSA Domestic Newcomer of the Year award. Forrester has been nominated for the accolade along with the Warriors duo of Matthew de Villiers and CJ King.

Forrester told OFM Sport that his move to Potchefstroom has gone smoothly, and he's settling in nicely.

“Yeah, I’m settling in well in Potch – it’s a nice little place. Everything’s close by, like a five-minute drive to anywhere. So yeah, I’m really enjoying it. It’s obviously lekker cold, but I’ve been loving it so far.”

The dynamic all-rounder – known for his clean ball-striking and knack for taking key wickets at crucial moments – added that he wouldn’t be in this position without the opportunity he was given at the Free State. He also said it’s encouraging to know people are noticing his efforts.

“I’m very honoured to be nominated for the award. When I look back, those two seasons with the Knights were amazing. Without that team and the chances I got there, I wouldn’t have been considered for something like this.

“That said, it’s also really nice to receive some individual recognition. I’m very happy and proud to be nominated – it definitely gives your confidence a boost knowing that CSA is watching and recognising the hard work. It puts a bit of a spring in your step at training.”

Looking ahead to the new season, Forrester said he has enjoyed every minute with the Dragons so far and is eager to get going.

“I can’t wait for the season to start. It’s been a great pre-season with the new team, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it.”

Recently, Forrester had his first taste of international cricket, representing Emerging South Africa in Bangladesh.

Against Emerging Bangladesh, he top-scored with an unbeaten 96* and posted best bowling figures of 2/31.

Earlier in the season, during the One-Day Cup, he smashed back-to-back centuries against Western Province and the Warriors.
