The third test between England and India lies in the balance at the end of the third day at Lords.

England will resume their innings on Sunday morning on two without loss after England took the last four Indian wickets yesterday for eleven runs to dismiss the team from the sub-continent for 387, meaning the scores were level on the first innings.

Earlier on Saturday, Indian opener KL Rahul once again showed skill with the bat, getting 100 runs before being caught by Harry Brook off the bowling of Shoab Bashir.  Rishabh Pant (74) and Ravindra Jadeja (72) both made useful contributions while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar added another 50 runs for the eighth wicket.

Chris Woakes was ruthless with the ball, taking three wickets for 84 runs, ably supported by comeback kid Jofra Archer (2 for 52) and Ben Stokes (2 for 63).

‘England were left with seven minutes to bat’

It did mean, however, that England were left with seven minutes to bat but Zak Crawley’s time-wasting, including calling the physio, ensured that only one over was possible, much to the fury of India.  Indian captain Shubman Gill was also heard over the stump mic, berating Crawley for time-wasting. The two also got into a heated altercation, while the players walked off the field at the end of play.

This marks just the ninth instance in nearly 150 years of Test cricket where both sides ended the first innings on the same score. The five-match series is locked at 1-1.
