There must be something in the Bloem water - Burmester | News Article
Wilco Nienaber, Gary Player, Dean Burmester - Morgan Piek

The seasoned professional golfer, Dean Burmester, is happy with the progress the 20-year-old Wilco Nienaber has made during his fledgling career.

Over the weekend Nienaber finished in fourth during the English Championship on the European Tour and pocketed R1 million in winnings.

Burmester in his turn finished in a tie for sixth along with Rustenburg’s Brandon Stone.

Both players who hail from Bloemfontein topped the standings with the two longest drives during the event.

Burmester, who was in contention to win the English Championship before the final round teed off on Sunday, told OFM Sport that there must be something in the Bloemfontein water.

“It obviously wasn’t what I wanted before I teed off, but I am happy with the result, and you take what you can get.

“It’s just nice to be in contention again, albeit it for a little while.

“With Wilco, he is obviously coming good and he has always shown that he has got the talent to take it to the next level and become a good professional.

“It’s nice to see and I glad he got into the top ten to get into Celtic Manor for this week as well and hopefully he can keep the run going.

“Two Bloemfontein boys finishing as one and two in the driving distance, so I think that there must be something in the Bloem water.”

Both players will be teeing it up on Thursday during the 2020 Celtic Classic at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales.
