Burmester opened a bogey-free round which included six birdies and an eagle on the 7th to finish for shots off the pace.

England's Laurie Canter recorded an incredible round of 12-under-par with 10 birdies and an eagle for the lead.

Burmester said that he entered the event with a different mindset.

“I have been playing well, but as I said golf is a crazy game.

“I have been suffering a little bit with things like anxiousness since Ireland. I think I have been putting too much pressure on myself.

“Coming into this week I said I’m going to give it all up and whatever happens, happens.

“If the ball goes into the hole, great, and if it doesn’t, that’s okay.

“Clearly that kind of mentality worked.”

Wilco Nienaber battled on day one with a round of one-over-par-73 for a share of 99th.
