Another near miss for Oosthuizen─── MORGAN PIEK 09:05 Mon, 26 Jul 2021
It was another close shave for South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen. This time, Oosthuizen had to settle for a share of second at the 3M Open on the PGA Tour at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
Oosthuizen carded a final round of five-under-par 66 to finish on 13-under-par, and shot strokes of the lead.
Oosthuizen’s long-time friend and countryman, Charl Schwartzel, also finished in a share of second following his final round of three-under-par 68.
The USA's Cameron Champ won the tournament with 15-under-par.
Oosthuizen said despite being the runner-up again this year he had a good week in Minnesota.
“I was happy to play this week. I sort of didn't really want to just think about last week, about not playing great on that Sunday and immediately quickly go back into tournament mode and then play this tournament.
“We had a good time here this week and I'm just trying to see if I can go one better than all these seconds and thirds.”
There will be no golf on the PGA this week due to the golf competition at the Olympic Games which starts on Thursday at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama.
The South African representatives will be Garrick Higgo and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. As the top-ranked South African golfer Oosthuizen was an automatic qualifier, however, he opted to withdraw in order to focus on spending time with his family on the farm. This paved the way for Bezuidenhout to earn his ticket to Japan.
