The 2022 European Tour tees off this week with the co-sanctioned Joburg Open at the Randpark Golf Club.
The new season gets underway just a week after the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last week.
The Joburg Open it the first of three events that are co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour and will be contested in South Africa.
The Bloemfonteiner, Dean Burmester, who finished sixth in Dubai last week said that they are happy to be playing at home again.
“But in general, the whole team at the Sunshine Tour, the sponsors and the South African government have done a great job to get these three events to be played.
“I know it’s difficult times, and from a player’s perspective we love playing in front of our home crowds and this is another opportunity where we get three chances.
“I think all the South Africans are excited to come home and give it their best shot and hopefully keep all these trophies in South Africa.”
The last time Burmester played in South Africa he won the SA PGA Championship in St Francis.
The R17,5 million Joburg Open tees off on Thursday morning.
