Hopefully we can make South Africa proud this week - Bezuidenhout─── MORGAN PIEK 06:51 Thu, 22 Sep 2022
The 28-year-old Christiaan Bezuidenhout wants to make South Africa proud this week during the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bezuidenhout is the only South African that will be teeing it up at the prestigious tournament, although the International Team is being captained by the former Masters winner, Trevor Immelman.
Bezuidenhout, who earned his Sunshine Tour card to turn professional in Bloemfontein, said that making the Presidents Cup team was a season's goal.
“So far it's been great. We've got a great team around us, great captain, and the team's been phenomenal the whole week,” said Bezuidenhout.
“Everybody's excited to get going. Hopefully it's going to be a good week for us. Yeah, as soon as we found out that Trevor is going to be the captain of the international team, that was definitely one of my biggest goals of the season - to make this team and to represent my country with Trevor being our captain this week.
“So hopefully we can make South Africa proud this week.
“Everything about the Presidents Cup, the whole team environment, playing with all the guys that you used to play against every week, just in a team environment. That's been great.
“Lots of laughs. Lots of jokes. Yeah, it's just a special bunch of guys who you're going to make friends with here that's going to last forever.”
The USA has won 11 of the previous 13 tournaments while they lost once and tied once.
