Bryson DeChambeau of the USA leads after the incomplete first round of the 88th Masters being played at Augusta in Georgia.

The start at Augusta was delayed due to storms and this also made the already tough course just that much trickier.

DeChambeau signed his card for a first round of seven-under-par 65 for a one-stroke lead at the year's first major.

The world number one, Scottie Scheffler, was a further stroke back on six-under-par for second, with Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark in second.

DeChambeau who is known for being one of the longest hitters in world golf said consistency in his game and approach is key, while also likes to keep it simple.

“Every day I’m just saying to myself, just swing the same way you have been for the past eight months, since the Greenbrier, and go back to those feels every single day,” DeChambeau said.

“I know that works. I mean, I shot 58 with it. This game is ever-changing. It’s a moving target. But what did I do there and how do I keep doing it, making sure I’m feeling that same motion that I’ve settled on.”

“The motion is really just tilt the shoulders to swing more inside out - that’s all it is. And in putting, take it straight back, straight through. Those are the two biggest things I’ve focused on.”

South Africa's Erik van Rooyen, who at one stage was in the lead, finished on one-under-par for a share of 17th, while Charl Schwartzel and Christo Lamprecht both finished on two-over-par 74 for a share of 54th.
