Dean Burmester is close to breaking back into the top 100 on the official world golf rankings following his performance at the 106th PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Course on the weekend.

The 34-year-old from Bloemfontein finished in a tie for 12th and this has earned him an invite to next year’s event.

Burmester’s showing at the major saw him jumping 28 places on the rankings to 105th in the world.

Despite not making the cut, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, remains South Africa's top-ranked golfer, but he has dropped four places to 57th, while Erik van Rooyen has dropped one place to 65th.

Along with Bezuidenhout, Thriston Lawrence and Ryan van Velzen also failed to make the cut at Valhalla.
