Stingers eye strong finish at LIV Golf Michigan─── MORGAN PIEK 13:45 Wed, 20 Aug 2025

The South African team Stingers GC are aiming to finish their season on a high at the season-ending LIV Golf Michigan event in the USA.
The Stingers, captained by Louis Oosthuizen and featuring Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmester, and Branden Grace, are currently seventh in the team standings.
Fresh off the momentum from Chicago and a solid showing in Indianapolis, the Stingers arrived in Michigan this week, determined to go out with a bang at the LIV Golf Team Championship.
Oosthuizen said the team are in a good space at the moment, and that unity is key.
“We’re still doing everything together. The mood’s good, and that’s what it’s all about – this is a proper team event, no individuals, and we’re very excited,” said the former Open Championship winner.
He added that they are well prepared and have everything in place for one last big push this weekend, and every player knows and understands their role within the team.

“There’s no individual play this week, it’s all match play. We’ve already mapped out who’ll play singles, who’ll pair up for foursomes, and which combinations suit this course best.
“You have to think about everything – from the type of golf ball to whether a player can take an aggressive approach – but in the end it’s a team decision, and we’re very happy with where we’ve landed.”
After what was a difficult weekend for South African teams across various sports with the Springboks losing, the Proteas losing and Dricus du Plessis being beaten by Khamzat Chimaev, Oosthuizen said it would be great to help restore some pride.
“We obviously didn’t have the greatest weekend as South African sportsmen, but we’re motivated to keep grinding, keep working hard and give South Africa the best we’ve got.”
The tournament at The Cardinal in Saint John’s tees off on Friday and runs until Sunday.
