Albertse storms into three-shot lead at PGA Championship─── MORGAN PIEK 07:39 Sun, 08 Nov 2026
Louis Albertse produced a superb display of golf to take control of the PGA Championship at Country Club Johannesburg on Saturday, opening up a three-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round of the Sunshine Tour event.
Albertse carded a seven-under-par 63 to move to 23 under par for the tournament, putting himself within touching distance of the record books.
His score is the lowest tournament total since George Coetzee won on 27 under par in 2011. The overall record remains Louis Oosthuizen's 28 under par, set in 2008, leaving Albertse with an opportunity to challenge that mark.

Dean Burmester - Sunshine Tour
Starting the day two shots behind overnight leader Samuel Simpson, Albertse made his move with an outstanding putting display. He collected six birdies in an eight-hole stretch from the third before finishing strongly with another three birdies in his final four holes.
His impressive round gave him a three-shot advantage over Simpson, who signed for a three-under-par 68.
Simpson was full of praise for his playing partner's performance.
“Louis played some incredible golf. He was so solid, and his putting was incredible. Credit to him. It's going to be a big day tomorrow,” he said.
Although Simpson did not have his best day, he showed plenty of character to remain in contention. The 24-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season, with three victories already under his belt, and is determined to go one better after finishing runner-up last year.
“I'm really proud of the way I fought, even though I didn't have my best game. To finish with three consecutive birdies and make a couple of important par saves was pleasing. Having finished second last year, I'd really love to get my hands on the trophy,” he said.
Simpson believes his improved consistency comes from learning to embrace both the good and bad moments of the game.

Kylede Beer - Sunshine Tour
Meanwhile, Dean Burmester was impressed by Simpson's talent after playing alongside him earlier in the week.
“It's great to see a young player with that much talent. To hit the ball that far and still keep it straight is impressive. He really caught my eye, and he's certainly a generational talent,” Burmester said.
Recent Rwanda Open champion Kyle de Beer also made a late charge, picking up birdies on his final two holes to sign for a 65. He moved into third place on 19 under par.

Samuel Simpson - Sunshine Tour
De Beer said the relaxed atmosphere in his group, which included Burmester and Deon Germishuys, helped his performance.
Coming off his Rwanda victory, he is confident heading into the final round, although he knows he will need to be at his best against Albertse and Simpson.
Burmester sits five shots off the lead as he looks to add to his 2021 triumph.
