The ultimate act of kindness for Olive Noel

Olive Noel extends her gratitude to every donor who has played a vital role in her health journey. It is kindness that has helped Olive thus far, and kindness that can take her further.

At just six weeks old, Olive was admitted to a neonatal ICU in heart failure. Diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA), a rare genetic bone marrow failure syndrome, her body was unable to produce the red blood cells necessary to sustain life. Since that first critical day, Olive’s survival has depended on a transfusion every three weeks. She has received more than 150 to date.

The ultimate act of kindness

To protect Olive from life-threatening transfusion reactions, a dedicated group of nine blood donors stepped forward. For nearly a decade, these "Guardian Angels" have donated specifically for her every 8 to 12 weeks. Their consistent, selfless commitment represents the ultimate act of kindness: providing the very essence of life to a child they may never even meet.

Olive extends her gratitude to every donor who has played a vital role in her health journey.

Olive has since grown into a joyful, determined young girl who loves life despite the daily challenges of medication, white blood cell injections, and a compromised immune system.

The next chapter: A path to a cure

While these donors have carried Olive through her first decade, her medical team has determined a more permanent solution is now necessary. In April, Olive is scheduled to travel to a specialized centre in the Netherlands for a stem cell transplant.

This high-risk procedure offers the possibility of a cure, a longer, healthier life, and potentially ending her dependence on transfusions, giving her a future free from constant medical fragility.

The Noel family has been preparing for this for years, but the financial challenge is significant. The cost is substantial, insurance is uncertain, and there may be a loss of income during the months Olive needs intensive treatment and recovery in another country.

This is where kindness can take Olive further

Whether it’s a financial contribution, sharing Olive’s story, or keeping her in your thoughts and prayers, every gesture of kindness matters.

Financial contributions are being managed through a Backabuddy campaign administered by the Olive Children’s Foundation, a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation (PBO 930065293).

Tax Benefits: Donors are entitled to a Section 18A tax certificate for their contributions. To request yours, please contact olivechildrensfoundation@gmail.com.

It is kindness that has helped Olive thus far, and kindness that can take her further.
