Zim nationals caught with millions worth of stolen copper from Joburg City Power | News Article

Johannesburg – Four Zimbabweans suspected of stealing copper worth millions of rands from City Power in Johannesburg are in police custody, the Hawks said on Tuesday.

The four, including a set of twins, were arrested at a plot in Randjesfontein, Midrand, on Monday afternoon.

“The suspects were in the process of stripping the cables when the Hawks caught them off guard,” said Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi.

“The branding on the copper revealed that the metal was stolen from Johannesburg City Power.”

Officers also seized fraudulent invoices issued to unsuspecting clients of the gang, using the letterhead of Johannesburg City Power.

Mulaudzi said the men allegedly duped the clients into believing they were sub-contracted by City Power to sell the copper.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 35, were expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
