Ceppwawu strike continues with pickets in four provinces | News Article

Rustenburg - Members of Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers’ Union (Ceppwawu) will picket at petrol depots and at some pharmaceutical companies in four provinces as part of industrial action, the union said on Wednesday.

Ceppwawu general secretary, Simon Mofokeng, said there would be pickets and demonstrations in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.

“This is in line with the union’s decision to intensify its strike against National Petroleum Employers Association,” Mofokeng said in a statement.

“The union continues to demand nine percent and the employers are refusing to accede to the worker’s demands. The CCMA [ Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration] will invoke Section 150 intervention between the union and the employers.”

Union members downed tools on July 28 in a push for the employer to accede to their wage demands.

Mofokeng said the biggest demonstration would be in Secunda, Mpumalanga. Provincial and local leaders of Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) in Mpumalanga were expected to join the demonstrations at Sasol.
