Police in Limpopo say seven suspected cash-in-transit robbers were killed and two policemen wounded in a shootout near Polokwane yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, police tried to stop three cars on the road to Elim some 70 kilometres from Polokwane. The occupants of the three vehicles opened fire and a shoot-out ensued. Seven would-be robbers were killed and another seriously injured. Four men managed to flee the area in a Volvo. One police officer was shot in the leg and another in the arm. Police confiscated three R5 rifles, an AK 47, a 9mm pistol as well as angle grinders and gas canisters.
