Free State beneficiary support open for applications─── 10:41 Wed, 10 Sep 2025

Free State Agriculture MEC Elzabé Rockman has confirmed the start of the beneficiary appointment process for the 2025/26 financial year while also opening applications for support in the 2026/27 cycle.
Rockman explains the department had begun issuing appointment letters and signing agreements with approved beneficiaries. The first group to be assisted are farmers under the Integrated Agricultural Enterprise Assistance (IAEA) programme, which includes sunflower and maize producers.
“We prioritise these farmers to ensure they can plant at the start of the planting season and avoid late planting, which affects crop quality.”
The MEC noted that the appointment and approval process for 2025/26 projects will continue over the next few weeks as the provincial department finalises agreements in consultation with the national Department of Agriculture.
Applications for the 2026/27 financial year opened on 9 September and will close on 9 October.
Farmers from all commodity groups are encouraged to apply for support ranging from financial aid and input provision to training, capacity building, and marketing assistance.
To improve transparency and accountability, every applicant now receives a unique reference number, enabling the department to track applications. Rockman says additional measures have been introduced to help farmers comply with documentation requirements and to simplify the process.
District roadshows will be held in all five districts during September to assist farmers with applications. The department will also intensify its communication campaign through community radio and print media.
“We want to ensure all farmers receive this information and take up the opportunity to apply. Applications will be verified and duly considered as we work to strengthen agriculture in the Free State.”
