The opening weekend was held in Cape Town at UCT, with the Hares Astro hosting 8 Varsities, Maties, UFS Kovsies, NWU, UCT, UJ, Wits, NMU Madibaz and defending champions UP Tuks.

The opening weekend saw Maties stand head and shoulders above their competition as they completed all four rounds unbeaten, leaving them at the top of the log with 12 points. The log leaders are followed by UFS Kovsies who, along with UCT, managed victories in their opening games. 

The defending Champions, UP Tuks, find themselves with only one win in their four games from this weekend, which includes defeats to Maties, UJ, and UCT.

Meanwhile, UFS Kovsies took good momentum out of their final game beating NMU Madibaz 16-2.  

"The win against against Madibaz was an important one for us, it allows us to take good momentum into next weekend in Potchefstroom", UFS Kovsies Coach Luke Makeleni speaking to OFM about the rest of the campaign.

The next round will be played at the NWU Astro turf from on Friday the 10th of May at 13H30 with UFS Kovsies taking Wits in the first game of Round 5.
