Swiss court rules in Semenya's favour─── MORGAN PIEK 18:26 Mon, 03 Jun 2019
Caster Semenya's lawyer Gregg Nott on Monday said that the Supreme Court of Switzerland have suspended the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) regulations which prevent her running races between 400m and a mile.
"The court today ordered the IAAF to suspend immediately the implementation of the regulation with regard to Caster and has given the IAAF until the 25th of June to respond to the suspense of effect," said Nott after learning that the application for suspension of the regulations had been successful.
The turnaround comes after Semenya and her legal team challenged IAAF in May and lost their appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The IAAF ruling required Semenya, who has a condition called hyperandrogenism, to use medication to lower her testosterone levels if she wanted to continue running in 400m to 1500m races.
Monday's ruling means that Semenya is free to compete in races of all distances without medication to limit her testosterone levels.
The Supreme Court of Switzerland have given the IAAF until June 25 to respond. Until such time, Semenya is free to run without implementing the IAAF's initial ruling.
