Varsity Sports Netball Action heating up─── 09:03 Mon, 16 Sep 2019
With only two games remaining ahead of this years' semi-finals, the top 4 is all but decided, the only question is, which two teams will host the semi-finals?
The University of the Free State started this year as the Dream Team and defending champions, and in a repeat of the 2018 final, faced UP Tuks in Bloemfontein. The Tuks team beat the Dream Team in the opening match of the tournament and picked up a bonus point in the process.
Along the way, the Tuks team have gathered bonus points against all their opposition to leave them sitting pretty at the top of the log.
They (UP TUKS) will take on the challenge of facing NWU, with only two games left in the group stages, where a win will just about guarantee a home semi-final for the Pretoria team.
The defending champions, the UFS Dream Team, have managed victories in all their matches, but for the blemish against Tuks at the start of the season. They now need to win their two remaining fixtures against UWC and Maties if they are to climb above Maties to second on the log, and host the second semi-final of the tournament. Maties and UFS sit at second and third place respectively, equal on points and separated only by points difference.
The last two weeks of the round robin are setup for a battle of the top four and will be decided over the next two Mondays of the month, 16 and 23 September.
The two semi-finals will be played on Monday 30 September, with the final being played the week thereafter on Monday 07 October.
