It was a one-two for Mercedes yesterday at the Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Austria with the Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, claiming his 8th career win and first of the season.

Hamilton started the race in Spielburg in pole position and led from start to finish, while his teammate and the winner of the Austrian Grand Prix a week prior, rode in second.

Max Verstappen claimed third and his first podium of the season after having to retired in the previous race.

While only three cars did not finish this time around, it wasn't without drama, especially for Ferrari.

A collision between the teammates, Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel, on the opening laps saw both cars having to retire.

Vettel made it to the pit, where it was decided that replacing his damaged tail-wing wouldn’t justify the time it would take to fix.

Leclerc had damage to his nose-wing and this was repaired, but his race ended in the 4th lap due to the collision.

The only other driver to retire was the French Renault driver, Esteban Ocon, in the 25th lap.

Following the race, Hamilton, said an 85th career win is much more important than the fastest lap point.

“What a weird year it is. It’s great to be back out here and to be driving and driving with this kind of performance.

“The team did a fantastic job with the strategy and it was just up to me to keep it together, keep off the kerbs and bring it home.

“I’m so grateful to be back in first place and honestly it feels like a long time coming since the last race last year.

“To come back this year after a difficult first weekend last week, this is a great step forward.”

The drivers are off to Budapest this week for the Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring.
