Binder overwhelmed by home support─── MORGAN PIEK 09:51 Thu, 13 Aug 2020
The MotoGP champion, Brad Binder, is blown away by the support he has received from South Africa after winning the Czech Grand Prix on Sunday.
Binder became the first South African to win a MotoGP in the elite class when he destroyed the field on Sunday, in what was just his third race.
The 25-year-old Potchefstroom-born Binder says that he has had to put his phone on flight mode.
“I phoned my mom and dad a couple of times, but they were always on the phone when I called, so they didn’t answer a couple of times.
“It’s crazy, I’ve had my phone on flight mode for basically 24 hours now. It was going ridiculous.
“I think every person I’ve ever met tried to phone me or send a message, but it was insane and awesome.”
The MotoGP is in Spielburg this week for the Austrian Grand Prix, and this will also be a home race for Binder.
