In what was his first-ever quarter-finals appearance, the Free Stater made light work of dispatching his counterpart from Cape Town, Migual Lombard.

Olivier controlled the match from the first game and had no trouble in beating Lombard 11-6, 11-2, 11-7.

Olivier will next face the defending champion, JP Brits, in the semi-finals.

Brits in his turn beat Matt Boote 9-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 to advance.

In the women's draw, Hayley Ward, who won the Free State Regional tournament in Bloemfontein over the weekend, also booked her spot in the semi-finals.

Ward beat Danell Douglas from the North West 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7.
