Schoenmaker breaks another Olympic record─── MORGAN PIEK 13:19 Wed, 28 Jul 2021
South Africa's Tatjana Schoenmaker has broken an Olympic breaststroke record for the second time at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
This time the 100m silver medalist broke the record in the fourth heat of the women's 200m breaststroke to set the fastest time of 2:19.16 heading into the semi-finals.
She missed on Rikke Moller Pedersen's world record by just .05 seconds.
Fellow South African, Kaylene Corbett, won the second heat in 2:22.48 for the fourth fastest time. This was also a personal best for Corbett.
In the women's 100m freestyle, Erin Gallagher came second in her heat in 54.75 seconds. This time wasn't good enough to advance.
Martin Binedell was second in the 200m backstroke for men in his heat, but his time wasn't good enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the 200m individual medley for men, Mathew Sates, finished 5th in his heat. This too wasn't good enough to make the semi-finals.
