Free Stater Moore geared for 2022 Dakar─── MORGAN PIEK 07:12 Thu, 12 Aug 2021
The Free State off-road rider Charan Moore will be competing in the 2022 edition of the Dakar Rally which will be staged in Saudi Arabia.
The rider from Ladybrand has been accepted to compete in the grueling rally and he will be racing in the Malle Moto class.
Moore told OFM Sport that the Malle Moto Class is the true Dakar experience.
“I’ll be doing the Malle Moto class, which is the true spirit of the event and a way to pay homage to the true essence of what the Dakar is.
“Basically, it is no support – it’s just myself, a tent, a small metal box to carry all of my spares and tool for a two-week adventure.
“I have to do all my own work on the bike. I have to take care of everything, pitch my tent, sleep in it and break it down the next day and start riding.
“I see it as the entry step to the Dakar and kind of a way to really get my feet dug into the dirt properly.”
Moore will also use the event to pay homage to his good friend, Elmer Symons, who tragically passed away during the 2007 Dakar.
The 2022 Dakar starts on 2 January in Ha'il.
