Very hot out there, but loving it - Simmons─── MORGAN PIEK 08:33 Tue, 18 Jan 2022
The South African women’s hockey team got their African Cup of Nations title defence in Ghana off to a perfect start on Monday with a 3-0 win over Zimbabwe in Accra.
OFM’s Shindre-Lee Simmons was one of four South Africans to debut in the new-look national side.
While the Proteas win was a fairly comfortable one the score line doesn’t quite confirm their dominance of the game.
The suffocating heat also played a big role in the game.
Simmons told OFM Sport while the heat was intense, she loved every moment of her national debut.
“We won by 3-0 and it was very hot out there, but loving it.
“We definitely could've done better in terms of game play but we are looking forward to tomorrow against Namibia.”
On Tuesday afternoon the South Africans will be up against neighbours, Namibia.
This match in Accra gets underway at 17:00.
