Proteas stumble in first World Cup warm-up game─── MORGAN PIEK 07:20 Thu, 23 Jun 2022
The South Africa women's hockey team got their final preparations for the FIH World Cup in Spain and the Netherlands on Wednesday.
The national side played in the first of their five warm-up games on Thursday. The Proteas lost 5-0 to England in London. The English are fresh from their FIH Pro League campaign.
The two sides will meet again on Thursday afternoon in their second game before the Proteas head to Spain where they will be based for the World Cup.
In Spain they will also play in warm-up games against Argentina, Korea and Canada.
The Proteas are in Pool D for the World Cup with Australia, Belgium and Japan.
South Africa face Belgium next week Sunday in Terrassa in their opening game of the World Cup.
Following the World Cup, the Proteas will head back to England for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where they are in the same group as Australia, Kenya, New Zealand and Scotland.
