Proteas want to go out with a bang─── MORGAN PIEK 15:00 Mon, 11 Jul 2022
The Proteas will be looking to go out with a bang on Tuesday when they face Chile at the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands.
On the weekend South Africa lost 3-0 to Germany in the quarter-finals while yesterday they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ireland in the 9th to 12th place playoff.
While Tuesday’s game against the South Americans is for pride, it also serves as preparation ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Lillian du Plessis who played in her 150th Test yesterday said they will put everything into the game.
“I don't think it was our legs, we just let ourselves down technically. Tactically we knew what we wanted to do and when we executed, we got it right, but technically we just weren't good enough.
“We must need to regroup and refocus.
“We want to put everything into the last game before we head off to the Commonwealth Games.”
Tomorrow’s 13th to 16th place playoff at the Wagener Hockey Stadium gets underway at 12:00.
