Verstappen and Perez dominate the streets─── 05:26 Sat, 08 Oct 2022
With the 2022 Formula 1 season well in, this past weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix sees Red Bull extending their strong lead. 576 points strong, they lead the second placed Ferrari by 137 points.
Not only does the Red Bull team lead in points, but they have also proven to be street savvy in that they have dominated close to every street race of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix saw an impressive drive by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, as he took on a physical and gruelling rain-soaked Marina Bay circuit. With seven street races on the 2022 calendar, a well-deserved win by the Mexican driver saw the team dominating their 6th street race and an overall 13th race of the season. Jolyon Palmer, British motorsport commentator, describes Checo’s on track performance as sensational and stated it to be a marvellous victory.
Prior to this win, reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, has dominated every other street race of the season, namely the Saudi Arabian, Miami, Azerbaijan and Canadian Grand Prix’s. Monaco was won by Checo giving him two street race wins for the season.
The Australian Grand Prix was the only street race of the season to be dominated by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen inches closer to the 2022 Championship title with a possible win looming. The upcoming Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka offers the opportunity for this if certain circumstances and race results are to play in his favour. Verstappen just needs to win for a 2nd championship title.
The race weekend kicked off on the 7th of October in Japan with the practice races and qualifiers well under way.
The race is set to begin on the 9th of October at 07:00.
