The Ladybrand local competed in the Dakar for just the second time after making his debut last year.

The Malle Moto Class is considered the toughest at the event as the riders have to do everything themselves.

Speaking to OFM Sport after his victory, the 31-year-old Moore said it was quite an experience.

"I'm incredibly stoked at what a journey this has been," said Moore.

"This Dakar has been so up and down for me, so to make it at the end and to win the Malle Moto class is incredible.

"I had so many issues with the bike - fuel pump, the gearbox and I had to change the motor all by myself. It was a hectic experience.

"The weather was crazy and the stages were long. It's definitely one of the Dakars for the record books.

"I'm truly honoured to win the class and represent South Africa.

"It's been good - I feel strong, happy and looking forward to the next one already."

Javi Vega of Spain finished second in 20 minutes and one second off the pace of Moore.
