The Ladybrand-based rider won the Malle Moto class at the grueling rally in January.

Moore was recognized for his achievements at the Dakar during the annual Motorsport South Africa awards on the weekend.

Moore told OFM Sport that getting his colours was the cherry on the cake.

“It feels like a lifetime committed to motorsport

“Through all the years of racing and trying to win championships and compete on that international level, to get to that point where you get that recognition and become a South African athlete it's honestly a massive privilege. It's a culmination of years devoted to the sport.

“I think it’s the start of something great and hopefully we can get to some more Dakar’s and really fly that South African flag and take it to that next level.

“It's a true honour and a real cherry on the top after a great Dakar and a great year.”

Moore won the Dakar in what was just his second attempt at the event and the self-sustaining class.
