Max Verstappen created Formula 1 history on Sunday by winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza for his 10th straight win.

Starting second on the grid Verstappen dominated the race at the Temple of Speed to better Sebastian Vettel’s record which he equalled by winning the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort a week prior.

Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez, finished in second some six seconds off the pace, while Carlos Sainz completed the podium to take third for Ferrari in their home race.

Following his win Verstappen said would have believed that winning ten consecutive races was possible.

“I never would have believed that 10 wins in a row was possible, but we had to work for it today and that was definitely a lot more fun,” said Verstappen.

“We had good pace, we were good on the tyres, but Ferrari had a lot of top speed.

“It was so hard to get close and make the move into Turn 1. I had to force Sainz into a mistake and luckily it came at some point where he locked up, and I had better traction out of Turn 2, which was good, so we could do my own race.”

Verstappen moved up to 364 points in the drivers’ championship and he is well on course for a third consecutive world title.

The drivers and team will heat to Marina Bay for the Singapore Grand Prix that will take place on the weekend of 15-17 September.
