Fast5 Proteas aim for Gold in Christchurch─── KAYLA BARKER 06:00 Sat, 11 Nov 2023
The FAST5 Proteas are in Christchurch New Zealand for the Fast5 Netball World Series taking place this weekend from the 11th to the 12th of November at the Wolfbrook Arena.
The World Series pits the world’s top-six ranked teams in a two-day tournament for the shorter, quicker, and five-a-side version of the game.
The Proteas have taken part in 10 of the 11 editions of the tournament and this year they aim to bring home the gold. They have only made it to the top four twice before, in 2012 and 2013 while last year they managed to make it to the podium.
The Proteas reached the final where they came up against Australia who went onto win the competition for the first time.
The goal this year is to make it to the final again and hopefully better their result by bringing home the gold.
Fast5’s coach, who is also the Free State Crinums coach, Mosoahle-Samm says; “We are hoping to get the gold medal this year. Last year we only lost one game and we showed the world that we are capable of doing this. In our very first final, we have learned better. We have learned better, and we have learned more. Last year was my first time taking the team here and we can only learn from there. We are now much smarter, and we know how the game is played, the technical part of it. It’s very exciting and we are aiming for a gold medal this year.”
The team has been in New Zealand since Monday and will begin their campaign today against England before they face Australia and Jamaica later in the day.
