“We're glad to have the event back in Bloemfontein after a one-year hiatus. It is a very popular event and a favourite of many riders across the country.”

The third round of the South African National Motocross Championship will be taking place in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The very best motocross riders from across the country will gather at the Tempe Motocross track on Saturday with the aim of claiming a national title.

The event is back in Bloemfontein after missing out last year and the excitement is starting to mount.

The former South African champion, Tyson Engelbrecht, who may be in action this weekend told OFM Sport that the local riders could be a force to be reckoned with.

“Bloemfontein is glad to host round three of the South African National Motocross Championship this weekend, said Engelbrecht who finished second overall in his class during last week's pre-national.

“We're glad to have the event back in Bloemfontein after a one-year hiatus. It is a very popular event and a favourite of many riders across the country.

“Great racing is expected this weekend with many of the local riders competing for wins and advancing in championship for the season.”

Engelbrecht has been battling with flu this week and he will still make a call on whether or not he will race. He is also semi-retired and said that if he does take to the track on Saturday it will most probably a one-off.

While there are too many good riders to mention – who could be contenders for a national title this weekend – the 11-time consecutive Free State Champion, Johan Vogelesang, is definitely a rider to watch out for. While, in the 50cc class, Mason Visser will be a real contender after winning both of his heats on Saturday.

Among the ladies, Misha Beukes is certainly also a rider to keep an eye on this weekend. Another women rider Mienke Cawood ended 3rd overall in the Ladies Class and is currently lying 3rd on the National Championship’s standings.

The action at Tempe gets underway at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
