The reigning Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen, will start Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix in the USA in pole position.

The Red Bull driver, who remains the only man to have won the Grand Prix in Florida, recorded the fastest time in qualify in 1:27.241.

This gives him a big advantage as he goes hunting for a hat-trick of titles in the Magic City.

Verstappen, who won the Sprint race, felt that they sort out some minor issues and the car will be good enough to keep the Ferrari’s at bay.

“The car definitely feels a little bit more under control, which I was looking for and hopefully that will help us out tomorrow, but we’ll find out.

“I think we know what we did wrong at the Sprint start, what I did wrong as well. I’m sure that if I do my things correctly – and we’re just very good with what we have been doing in the last few starts – then normally it should be alright.”

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari while also start the race on the front row of the grid after clocking the second fastest time in qualifying in 1.27.455.

Leclerc's teammate, Carlos Sainz, of Sainz in the second row of the grid after being the third fastest in qualifying, while he next to him will be Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez.

The two McLaren's of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will occupy the third row after qualifying in fifth and sixth respectively, while the two Mercedes-Benz drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton qualified in seventh and eighth respectively.

This Miami Grand Prix is the first of three stops in the USA this season.

The Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome will start on Sunday evening at 22:00.
