High tempo game is expected in SA Pro14 derby | News Article

A high tempo game is expected when the Southern Kings host the Toyota Cheetahs on Friday evening in the Guinness Pro14.

With just one win to their name in the campaign, the Kings are the underdogs for the clash and have also proven that they can beat the big teams as they did with the Glasgow Warriors.

Discipline will also be key for both teams in the clash and this is something that the hosts will no doubt be focusing on this week.

The Cheetahs captain, Tian Meyer, told OFM Sport that their opponents cannot be underestimated.

“Regardless of the results by both teams in the competition thus far it is always going to be a big game because it is a derby.

“Every year we play the Kings it is a big match, so I am expecting them to be up for the fight, and the rest of the team is expecting that a well.

“We are also preparing to put out our best performance.

“If we can take our opportunities and get our points I think it will be a great game to way.

“I think that South African supporters will love to watch this game.”

The Toyota Cheetahs centre, Nico Lee, will be making his 50th appearance for the team in the match. He will face his former teammate, Tertius Kruger, who recently moved from the Cheetahs to the Kings. Lee and Kruger were centre partners when Franco Smith coached the University of the Free State Shimlas to the Varsity Cup title in 2015.

Both the Cheetahs and Kings teams will be named on Thursday afternoon.

Friday evening’s game at the Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth kicks off at 19:00.
