Blitzboks crash out of Hamilton Sevens─── 07:41 Sun, 27 Jan 2019
South Africa will contest the Bronze final against New Zealand while Fiji and the United States will face off in the final of the Hamilton Sevens.
This after Fiji beat the Blitzboks 29-7 in the semi-final.
Uncharacteristic handling errors and poor tackling let the South Africans down as the Fijians ran in 4 tries against the solitary five-pointer and conversion from Selvyn Davids.
The mere fact that the Fijians were able to hold a 19-0 lead at the break, gives an indication of just how the Blitzbokke were outclassed in their last four encounters.
The SA downfall was admittedly assisted by the yellow card which saw Kyle Brown sent to the sin bin in the first half.
Earlier, the South Africans recorded a 28-19 win over Samoa in their quarterfinal encounter.
This victory might have emptied the Blitzbokke's energy tank as they held out for a 4 -3 win in the try count, having been down 7-12 at the break.
Some consolation for the South Africans was in the fact that their traditional rivals and hosts New Zealand, also came a cropper in going down 17-7 to the USA in their semifinal.
This will be the first final showpiece appearance by the USA on New Zealand soil.
USA play Fiji in the final.
