The Cheetahs will host the side from the Eastern Cape this weekend in the second South African derby in the competition.

The Cheetahs will take a lot from their 61-28 drubbing of Zebre on Saturday, but the Kings will take even more from their 25-21 win over Edinburgh.

The win against Zebre is the may but just what the Cheetahs needed according to the coach, Franco Smith.

“I am really excited about the win,” said the former Springbok pivot and assistant.

“There was some really good handling and defence, especially in the first half.

“At the set-piece, we are definitely getting better every week, so we have without a doubt achieved some of our goals.

“Having said that, we are not going to get ahead of ourselves. We left a lot of points out there on the park.

“We have to work on the guys’ excitement when they get into space. They get so excited and this leads to unforced errors, so we will definitely be addressing the urgency.

“We’re really proud of everybody in the squad, from the coaches to the players. We are improving and this will hopefully help with the next step in the process.”

The Cheetahs captain, Tian Meyer, told OFM Sport that their conversion rate must be a lot better.

“We have to keep on improving our conversion rate. We left a lot of points scoring opportunities out there.

“We converted a lot more against Zebre than against the Kings. Hopefully, we can convert a lot more and put out a good performance again.

“We’ll have our plans and if we can stick to our plans I am sure that we will do well.

Saturday’s derby at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:00.
