This match in Gauteng will be a repeat of last year’s semi-final when the men from Potchefstroom reigned supreme.

At 18:00 on Monday evening the University of Cape Town Ikeys will be in action at the Green Mile when they entertain the new boys on the block, the University of the Western Cape.

At the same time, the University of Pretoria Tuks will be in action against the Central University of Technology Ixias.

The Ixias coach, Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that Tuks will start the tournament under pressure.

“Tuks are a team under pressure. They didn’t do well last year and they missed out on the semi-finals.

“Everyone always says that Tuks should play in the final every year. We are going to try and use that to our advantage. We will try and put pressure on them and see how they respond.

“There is a different attitude in our team this year. The guys believe that they can win, and in the last few years I don’t think that the belief was always there.

“Having said that, we are very excited and we cannot wait for the Varsity Cup to begin.”

In the final game of the first round, the defending champions, the University of Stellenbosch Maties tackle Wits, at the 19:00 at the Danie Craven Stadium in Coetzenburg.
