South Africa's Blitzbokke showed vastly- improved form to defeat USA 19-7 after toppling Wales (19-10) and Chile (43-0) to reach the quarterfinals at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday (Sunday SA time).

Playing their second Pool A game against Wales, the Blitzbokke were tested early on when Ben Cambriani dotted down in the opening minute, but SA hit back with tries by Philip Snyman and Selvyn Davids to lead 12-5 at the break.

JC Pretorius rounded off a well-worked try to stretch the lead to 19-5 before Wales reduced the deficit to the final score of 19-10 through a try by Ben Roach.

The South Africans were fired up for their encounter against the sevens series log-leaders and last weekend's Las Vegas Sevens champions the USA, winning 19-7.

Pretorius and Stedman Gans scored first-half tries to see the South Africans lead 14-0 at the break.

Madison Hughes managed to breach the SA defence to score the USA's only try of the game, but Pretorius scored the last five-pointer of the match to allow the Blitzbokke to finish in style.

In their opening group fixture, the Blitzbokke ran in 7 tries without reply to beat Chile 43-0.

All of Siviwe Soyizwapi (2), JC Pretorius (2), Selvyn Davids (2), and Muller du Plessis crossed the whitewash, with Chile looking a shadow of the side that held the South Africans to a 5-all draw in Las Vegas a week earlier.
