The Toyota Cheetahs departed for Scotland on Tuesday where they will face the Glasgow Warriors in the Guinness Pro14.

The Cheetahs will be targeting their first ever win over the Scottish giants in the competition, but they know that beating the Conference A leaders will not be a walk in the park.

During the Cheetahs recent tour to Ireland and Wales, they were training on a G4 pitch, which will be the same surface the game will be played on.

The coach Franco Smith, feels that the experience gained on the surface will put them in good stead for the game.

“We are not going to be playing in European conditions. It is going to be dry and they play on an artificial surface as well.

“It is going to be quick and rapid.

“When we were in Cardiff we trained on an artificial surface for a few weeks and we noticed that the stop to start acceleration metres are very high, so it is going to be quick.”

With several of the Glasgow Warriors players having represented Scotland in the recently concluded Six Nations, they will be returning with a lot of confidence.

Although the Scots finished fifth overall in the competition, they will take a lot from their stunning 38-38 draw to England at Twickenham on Saturday.

The Cheetahs captain, Tian Meyer, told OFM Sport that their hosts will be a serious threat at home.

“I’m sure that they will be quite confident. For them it is a home game as well, so they will take it quite seriously.

“It is definitely going to be a tough task out there.

“The excitement around our squad is very good at the moment. We are demanding a better quality at training and better quality in the matches, and we can see that.

“We haven’t got the results in the last three games, but we’ve really been putting out good performances, and it at the moment it is just the small things that make the difference.”

Saturday’s game at the Scotstoun Stadium kicks off at 21:45.
