The Toyota Cheetahs utility back, William Small-Smith, has become the last player to recommit to the team after signing a contract extension.

The former Grey College captain and headboy has extended his stay at the franchise until the end of October 2021.

Small-Smith, who was a part of the Junior Springboks team which one the then IRB U20 World Championships in Cape Town in 2012, has become an important member of the Cheetahs team and is equally comfortable playing at centre or on the winger.

Small-Smith said that signing a contract extension was an easy decision to make.

“It was actually an easy decision to make. I moved to the Cheetahs to grow as a person and as a player and to get game time, and that was exactly what happened.”

“I’m really excited about the feature of Free State Rugby. I feel that the Toyota Cheetah team is still in early stages of the Guinness Pro14 championship – it’s only our second season. I believe that we are a team who can really compete to win the competition in the next year or two.”

“We have a new group of players who are starting to become better with each game played.”

“I really believe that we have a bright future - not only with the Currie Cup not overlapping but also with PRO14 where we want to go from strength to strength.”

“It is a privilege for me to extend my contract. I just want to keep contributing and keep doing what I can do to make the team better. The goal is to win any team at any time on any day.”

“I’m really excited about the next two years. I really feel fortunate to be able to do what I love. I hope that I can keep on contributing.”

Recently the towering 2.09m tall lock, JP du Preez, became the first play this year to signaled his intentions of staying by the franchise by signing a three-year contract extension.

Small-Smith flew out to Scotland with the Cheetahs on Tuesday for their Pro14 clash against the Glasgow Warriors on Saturday at the Scotstoun Stadium.
