It was a cagey affair in the opening quarter as both teams couldn’t quite settle in. But it was eventually Shimlas that drew first blood courtesy of Albertus de Bod, who jotted down lovely worked seven-point try

Shimlas were playing like a house on fire and scored the second try in a matter of minutes with Menzi Nhlabathi scoring. Lubabalo Dobela made no mistake with the conversion and it was 14-0 with Shimlas running away with it early on. George Rossouw added more misery for the home side by scoring another wonderful team try, Dobela made no mistake again with conversion, and it was 0-23 on the stroke of halftime.

Shimlas were playing some eye-catching rugby and went into the break with a commanding 23-0 lead. UJ would put some respect to the scoreline as Dian Schoonees scored a try and Wynard Botha made sure with the conversion. UJ were on the verge of a stunning comeback as captain Adrian Bester scored to give UJ a glimmer of hope.

But it wasn’t to be as Shimlas stunned the home crowd and scored against the run of play courtesy of Kurt Eybers, the score 28-14 to the away side. Dobela added to that advantage with a penalty and Shimlas were clear, 31-14.

Shimlas were the most dominant side and outclassed UJ at home, fullback Ruan Henning put the cherry on top as he scored a try with Dobela adding a conversion. The score ended 38-14. The final whistle blew and Shimlas deservedly won the match 38-14.
