Griquas opt for continuity─── MORGAN PIEK 15:04 Thu, 02 May 2019
The Tafel Lager Griquas have opted for continuity for their SuperSport Rugby Challenge second round match against the Griffons on Saturday in Welkom.
Last week the 2018 losing finalists kicked their campaign off on a high note with an outstanding 52-10 drubbing over the defending Currie Cup first division champions, the Valke.
The new Peacock Blues coach, Brent Janse van Rensburg, has made just two changes to his match 23, with one being in the starting XV, while the other is on the bench.
The only change to the run-on XV is in the backline where Warren Williams earns a start ahead of Enver Brandt.
Among the replacements, Devon Martinus, comes onto the bench in the place of NJ Oosthuizen.
The Griquas will tread lightly for the hosts, as the kicked their campaign off with a solid 34-27 win over the Leopards a week ago.
While the star Varsity Cup duo Tinus de Beer and Chris Smit are yet to earn their first start, both are on a bench that can provide a lot of punch. Other solid players among the replacements in Khwezi Mkhafu, Cody Basson and Zak Burger.
Saturday’s game at the HT Pelatona Projects Stadium in Welkom kicks off at 16:15.
Griquas – 15 Grant Hermanus, 14 Warren Williams, 13 Ederies Arendse, 12 André Swarts, 11 Anthonie Volmink, 10 George Whitehead (captain), 9 Christiaan Meyer, 8 Conway Pretorius, 7 Sias Koen, 6 Wendel Wehr, 5 Victor Sekekete, 4 Jonathan Adendorf, 3 Ewald van der Westhuizen, 2 AJ le Roux, 1 Khwezi Mona.
Replacements – 16 Khwezi Mkhafu, 17 Devon Martinus, 18 FP Pelser, 19 Cody Basson, 20 Zak Burger, 21 Chris Smit, 22 Tinus de beer.
