Baby Boks to turn up the heat in U20 Rugby Championship─── 06:59 Tue, 11 Jun 2019
With just one group game remaining in the group stages, Phendulani Buthelezi says that he and his chargers are ready to make the mental switch ahead of the business end of the U20 Rugby Championship.
The Baby Boks went into this years' U20 Rugby Championship looking to emulate the performance of the 2012 squad which lifted the trophy after beating New Zealand in the final.
Phendulani Buthelezi and his Baby Boks team got their 2019 campaign off to a flying start when they beat Scotland in their opening game of the tournament, 43-19.
A few days later, it was Georgia in the Baby Bok's firing line. Another good performance saw the South Africans run in eight tries en route to picking up a 48-20 win.
The team's final group match will be a repeat of the 2012 final, when they take on New Zealand on Wednesday evening, with the game kicking off at 20:30. The winning team will finish at the top of group C and take good momentum into the knockout stages of the competition.
Captain of the team Phendulani Buthelezi is urging his team to now switch on mentally, and not allow complacency to set into the camp.
"All the teams have eased their way into the World Rugby U20 Championship, and we now know what to expect from the others, so we are ready to go out there and build on what we have done up to now," said Buthelezi.
“It is exciting times ahead for us. It is in moments like these that we need to step up as players and try to create great memories. We are ready to do that.
“It is now up to us to make that mental switch, and go out there on Wednesday and do our best. We obviously need to ensure we prepare well, but the main thing for us is to focus on what we need to bring to the game.”
