The Griquas top the table after two rounds, while the Free State opened their campaign last week with a bonus-point win over the Blue Bulls in Pretoria.

As hosts, the Free State want to set the record straight following their 52-24 defeat to the Peacock Blues in Kimberley last year.

The Griquas centre, Blackie Swarts, told OFM Sport that for them it’s important to maintain their momentum.

“Cheetahs versus Griquas is always a big derby game for us”, said the versatile player.

“Whether we play in Kimberley or in Bloemfontein it is always nice playing against the Cheetahs. Especially for me seeing that I come from Bloem, so it’s always a good one for me and I’m really excited about this weeks derby.

“For us as the Griquas, we must just keep the momentum going. It has been a great start for us in the Currie Cup this year. The same going for the Cheetahs. They had a great win against the Bulls last week at Loftus.

“I think that the derby will be one to watch and hopefully we can play some good rugby this weekend”.

Saturday’s big derby at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
