Debuts for Massyn and Smit | News Article
Ruan Pienaar - INPHO

The Toyota Cheetahs flank Chris Massyn will make his debut on Saturday night during the Guinness PRO14 clash against the Ospreys in Neath.

Massyn will start on the flank for the game while Aidon Davis makes his long-awaited return and starts at eighthman.

In the frontrow Wilmar Arnoldi gets his first start at hooker as Joseph Dweba did not tour with the team due to a knee niggle and heavy workload this season.

In the backline, Craig Barry, will start on the wing and this effectively means that along with Rhyno Smith and Clayton Blommetjies there will be three fullbacks on the park.

This will be Barry’s first back at the Cheetahs since representing the team a couple of season ago while on loan from Western Province.

On the Marnus van der Merwe also returns from a long-term injury and will serve as cover at hooker, while he can also play on the flank if the need arises.

The centre Chris Smit is also on debut but he has been named on the bench.

It will be the fifth time that the Ospreys and Cheetahs go head-to-head but it will be the first time that they play at The Gnoll in Neath. The Ospreys lead the head-to-head battle three-one.

The captain Ruan Pienaar says that they have to focus on their discipline which let them down during the recent tour to Ireland and Wales.

“It is something that we have spoken about. Out discipline has let us down over the last three weeks.

“Back how we were very fortunate because we had nice weather which allowed us to play a nice brand of rugby, but we have to change a few things when we come over here.

“It has been tough and when you get two red cards in three games it is always going to make it difficult.

“Apart from that, we have averaged over ten penalties per game. In these conditions, it is tough to build pressure or play from your own half if your discipline keeps letting you down.

“It is definitely something that we have to focus on.”

Saturday’s game in Neath kicks off at 21:35.
