Markram keen on Test captaincy─── MORGAN PIEK 13:47 Mon, 18 May 2020
The Proteas opening batman, Aiden Markram, will welcome the Proteas Test captaincy if the honour does come his way.
The 25-year-old has previously skippered the national side when he stood in for Faf du Plessis during the ODI series against India in 2018.
Markram says he the captaincy is a goal, but it not the be-all and end-all.
“I've never given captaining my country too much thought.
“It's always been a shot in the dark for me. But now that my name is the hat for people who are writing news so to speak, it's nice to be considered. I'd love to do it and I'd probably even give an arm and a leg to do it.
“I've said it before though that it's not the be-all and end-all for me. I don't want to become desperate about it.
“I'd be honoured and excited, but I’ve not looked into it too much.”
Markram has the distinction of being the only captain to lead South Africa to a world cup title after the Junior Proteas won the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2014.
