The Toyota Cheetahs are planning to resume their team training as of Monday, 8 June. This comes after the contract sporting codes were given the green light to resume training by the government.

Level 3 of the national lockdown kicked in this morning, and this will allow all professional sporting codes to resume team training, however, only non-contact sports may resume playing.

While the news is good for professionals, systems need to be put in place to ensure a safe training environment for all.

Cheetahs, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that they are targeting next week Monday as the day to resume training.

“We are delighted by the minister’s announcement and we are looking forward to getting back on the training field.

“There a lot of things that need to be organised and put in place before we can do that, but that will start the process today (Monday).

“Hopefully we can do some medicals and one-on-one fitness tests by the end of the week and then start in small groups from next week Monday.

“That is the current plan but will have a lot of discussions and meeting today and then finalise that.”

On 18 March SA Rugby suspended all matches and training due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
