Specman still available for the Blitzboks─── MORGAN PIEK 09:15 Wed, 10 Jun 2020
The Springbok Sevens star, Rosko Specman, will still be available for the Springbok Sevens team while playing for the Toyota Cheetahs.
This comes as the speedster is on the verge of signing a two-year contract at the Toyota Cheetahs.
A condition to his contracting at the Central franchise is that he will be made available to play in the Dubai and Cape Town Sevens, and the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Specman previously played for the Cheetahs in 2017 and was part of the team's inaugural Guinness PRO14 campaign.
Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that the addition of Specman is on condition that he is still available to represent the Blitzboks during select events on the HSBC Sevens World Series, and the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
“It’s a great signing for us. Rosko also wanted to play sevens and there was another offer for him, but they didn’t want to allow him to play for the Blitzboks as well.
“We came to an understanding that he will be made available for the Olympics if he is chosen for that squad. He will also be available for the Dubai and Cape Town Sevens.
In 2016, Specman won an Olympic bronze medal when South Africa finished third at the sevens rugby during the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Specman’s contract at the Cheetahs will start on 1 November.
