I am super excited to get over to Montpellier - Reinach─── MORGAN PIEK 13:18 Fri, 12 Jun 2020
The Springbok scrumhalf, Cobus Reinach, has concluded a deal which will see him playing for Montpellier in France for the next three years.
The Bloemfontein born-and-bred World Cup-winner joins the French Top14 club from the Northampton Saints in England.
He becomes the latest of a long list of Grey College old boys to join the French outfit. The old boys who are currently still at Montpellier include Bismarck du Plessis, Jan Serfontein, Johan Goosen and Henry Immelman.
Recently Jannie du Plessis left to join the Lions, while Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Marcell Muller and Lesley Botha are all plying their trade at the Toyota Cheetahs now.
Reinach, who won the Rugby World Cup with the Springboks in Japan last year told OFM Sport that he is excited to start the next chapter of his career in France.
“I am super excited to get over to Montpellier, it’s been the worst kept secret for a while now”, said the speedy halfback.
“I’m looking forward to linking up with the other Grey and Springbok boys. I’m particularly excited to join up with Polly (Handré Pollard) and building on the partnership.
“MHR has a phenomenal group of players who I believe should challenge for silverware every year.
“On the flip side, I basically just got people to understand me in English and now I have to start from scratch with French, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Reinach is the son of the legendry Free State sprinter and rugby player, Jaco Reinach, who earned Springbok colours in athletics as well as rugby.
